WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS LOOKING TO MOVE FORWARD WITH COMMUNICATIONS CENTER

Washington County Commissioners will look to begin the first phase of the new Emergency Communications and Operations Center when they meet Tuesday morning.

The county has contracted with Page Southerland Page, an architectural firm out of Austin, for this first phase. This agreement between the firm and Washington County E 911 would cover initial stages of work on the new operations center, for improved communications.

County Judge John Brieden called this stage a “concept phase”, consisting of collecting information and preliminary sketches. He said the contract with Page Southerland Page was for $42,900, which has been accounted for in the budget.

In other items, the court will hear a request from the county IT department to purchase additional digital storage and backup space from DataVox. This purchase, expected by Brieden to exceed $86,000, would be used for providing more server space to store footage, taken from dash-cam and body-cam videos from traffic stops and arrests.

Brieden said the videos take up a large amount of space, and since they are legally required to be stored for at least 90 days, storage space runs out quickly.

The county will also look to begin advertising for bids and looking at next year’s prices for Road and Bridge materials. These include fuel, road construction materials, and steel products.

The court will also revisit an item considering flood boat operator training for county EMS. The item was tabled at last week’s meeting, as County Attorney asked for more time to review it.

Commissioners will also look at approving a request from the Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace, for the purchase of an Intel i7 desktop computer from JP Technology funds. In addition, they will consider a request from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, for the purchase of ten portable radios through the Homeland Security Grant.

The court will also consider a pair of subdivision variance requests.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse.
