OLD CVS BUILDING IN BRENHAM DEMOLISHED

Construction workers have torn down the old CVS Pharmacy building in Brenham.

Workers were seen Thursday clearing out rubble at the store’s former location in the 2500 block of South Day Street.

H-E-B, the owners of the property, intend to use the new space for parking.  They were issued a $500,000 permit by the city of Brenham in October for the renovations.

H-E-B did not renew the lease for the CVS store earlier this year, so it closed on October 2nd.

  1. Well i love our HEB and am glad for the expansion! City this size needs more parking and a big HEB!
I agree not many clothing stores to pick from but Maurices is my favorite! Online is good as well several good clohing stores dowtown as well
Guess we should count are blessings instead of the negativity

  2. More parking places for H-E-B there’s already enough people going in there how many more people can fit in there

  3. That is crazy HEB is already way to big it takes almost half the day to see everything in there. If they don’t renew Palais Royal’s lease which I Know they probably want we will not have any place to buy clothes except Walmart. Not everyone has transportation to go to BCS or Houston to shop So I hope Palais Royal’s do relocate even though they are expensive at least we will have another choice to buy clothes other then Walmart.

  4. Hoping Palais Royal relocates here, we lost JCPenney already. Consumers here are really just victims. We have few retail choices due to the average CONTROLLED blue collar wages. City best use their new Industrial controls to change the status quo in wages here, or we will continue to have less sales tax revenue and even higher property taxes. Anyone count the number of empty retail spaces downtown? Too many. Retails customer base must be prepared to find parking difficult around the court house Monday thru Friday due to the flourishing court house/ attorney business. These businesses pay high rents and cannot survive on weekend traffic alone. As a local consumer all I can say is thank goodness for Amazon.

    1. They City should have absolutely NO control over the wages that are paid to employees other than those the City pays its own employees. This town cannot support the vast retail outlets you desire. It’s a Catch 22: you can’t have the small town feel that many of the citizens want and the large retail outlets to choose from at the same time; it’s one or the other. And as a local consumer, shopping on Amazon is not doing anything to help benefit our economy or local retail. In fact, it contributes to the problem of the empty retail spaces downtown that you speak of.

    2. As someone who has spent years in Human Resources in the industrial sector in this area, I can state without any doubt that the City of Brenham has no direct impact on wages. Things like cost of living, competitive employers, and skill set are a few of the things that impact wages, but there are no city rules that determine employee wages.

  5. Thank God it is America and private property and people can tear down a building on their property if they want to. Unfortunately, thise rights are gradually being chipped away. If you doubt what I’m saying. Go try to build a shopping center. All the red tape will make you bankrupt before you dig the first hole. I pulled the plug on my project in Brenham after I spent 30K on architect plans. It will be easier to build somewhere else where there is less red tape.

  6. If you sit there and look at it they moved all the all the employees from CVS to areas around the areathere’s a CVS in Walmart or CVS in Hampstead is a CVS in Bryan College Station to CVS in Felton they went to other stores they’re still working and they’re not they’re not laid off

  7. Brenham the only town I know of that is Decreasing its residents choices to shop, While other towns are growing. Hard to “shop Brenham” when there are no places to shop, College station , Houston is our only choice.

  8. I think HEB’s next move will be to not renew Palais Royal’s lease and expand.
I don’t think anyone will admit that, you know how corporate hush hush works.
then the new parking will make more sense.

    1. They aren’t expanding the store itself. I was told by an employee (reliable) of Palais Royal that an HEB gas station, as well as additional parking, will be going into that space.

  9. Not A Great Move HEB
You should have moved Palais Royal down to CVS and EXPANDED YOUR HEB to A Central Market…….
    BRENHAM NEEDS A LARGER HEB.
    WE LOVE YOU !

    1. When Palais Royal’s contract is up, your wish will come true. It won’t be a Central Market, but closer to an HEB Plus.

    2. Palais Royal’s not getting their lease renewed either and the HEB store is going to expand into that space.
