BURTON CITY COUNCIL MEETING TUESDAY TO DISCUSS KNITTEL LIFT STATION PUMP
The Burton City Council will open up 2019 on Tuesday with continued discussion on the Knittel Lift Station Pump.
Councilmembers have tabled talks on repair or replacement of the pump for the past few meetings, as questions they had regarding warranty information went unanswered.
At December’s meeting, costs for both options were discussed. The council stated concerns over the life expectancy of the pump, wondering whether or not to spend more for a newer pump with more warranty.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the council will look to move $13,000 from the city’s utility fund to utility savings. City Secretary Angela Harrington said this refers back to an increase in utility rates that took place in January of 2018. The utility rate increase, approved in December of 2017, was to go towards the drilling of a backup water well.
The city will also set up May’s general election, with election contracts with Burton ISD and Washington County, and regular hours for early voting at Burton City Hall. The general election for two council positions and the position of mayor will be filled in the election on May 4th. Applications for a place on the ballot will be taken from January 16th to February 14th.
The council will also consider approval of the city’s general and water/sewer budgets. In addition, the council will look to set up a budget hearing for the city’s budgets on Tuesday, March 12th.
Councilmembers will also consider creation of a neighborhood watch program, adoption of junk and garbage ordinance, and hear several monthly and yearly reports.
The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., at Burton City Hall.
