FAYETTE CO. NARCOTICS UNIT CONFISCATES 50 KILOS OF COCAINE IN TRAFFIC STOP

  

An estimated $5 million worth of cocaine was confiscated after a traffic stop in Fayette County Friday morning.

At around 11:30 a.m., Sergeant Randy Thumann and K-9 Kolt stopped a Mazda SUV on I-10 at the 664 mile marker, for a traffic violation.

Sgt. Thumann observed many differences in the driver’s travel itinerary, along with several indicators of narcotics trafficking.  Upon being given consent to search the vehicle, it was found each seat was constructed with after-market compartments used to hide cocaine.

Approximately 50 kilos of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $5 million, were removed from the vehicle.  The driver, 50-year-old Francisco Rangel Rodriguez of Mexico, was arrested for drug possession and released to jail staff at the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
