SPRING SEMESTER CONTINUES FOR NEW BURTON HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL MATTHEW WAMBLE

Matthew Wamble and his family greet the Burton school board, after being hired as high school principal at December 17th’s school board meeting.

As another week of classes is set to begin in Burton ISD, so does another week of work for new high school Principal Matthew Wamble.

Wamble, who began working at Burton High School on January 7th, moved to Brenham about a year and a half ago from Houston, after living there for around 13 years.  Both Matthew and his wife, Lori, worked in Fort Bend ISD, with him starting his career there as a coach.

Wamble has spent roughly 16 years in education, graduating in 1996 from Cy Creek. He would go on to attend Texas State, and receive a Master’s Degree from the University of St. Thomas in Houston.

After being an athletic coordinator for 6A Chavez High School, Wamble decided to take a role in administration. He would spend about five years as an assistant principal in Fort Bend ISD, before building a house in Brenham to be closer to family.

Wamble would take a job as assistant principal for Brenham Junior High School for a year, before working this past fall semester as assistant principal for Brenham High School.  It was then he chose Burton.

Wamble said he challenges his students to be the best they can be.

Wamble said Burton Elementary School Principal Melinda Fuchs has been a great help for him as he adjusts to the new role.

Wamble said he feels confident moving forward, although it will certainly be a transition for students who were used to the leadership of former high school principal Karen Steenken, who will be retiring Thursday.

Wamble was hired at Burton’s school board meeting on December 17, 2018, through the year 2020.
