WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS HOLD BRIEF MEETING

Washington County Commissioners met briefly this (Tuesday) morning to go over a short list of items.

One of those items was the reappointment of Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke. Ruemke has held the position since 2015.

Several commissioners thanked Ruemke for his role with the county, saying he’s done a great job. Commissioner Kirk Hanath noted his efforts in securing reimbursement funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in regards to the flooding of 2016 and Hurricane Harvey.

Also in court, commissioners approved a service agreement between the Road and Bridge Department and Bluebonnet Electric Service, for electricity at the new Road and Bridge facility. Hanath said Bluebonnet Electric has been a “good partner with Washington County”.

The building, which will house the Road and Bridge Department, rural addressing and environmental services, will be built on 21 acres of property on Highway 36 North. The county intends to use cash in reserves to fund the project.

The court also approved formal notice for utility installation, for a two-inch road bore at 2830 Airport Road in Precinct 1.

Commissioners also offered their thoughts on the recent police officer shootings that occurred in Houston Monday afternoon. Commissioner Joy Fuchs echoed the words of Houston Police Officers Union President Joe Gamaldi, saying she has had enough of officers having a target on their backs.  Commissioner Don Koester offered his prayers for those injured, saying “it takes a special person in order to be a police officer”.
