KREISCHE HOUSE IN LA GRANGE CLOSING IN ON NEW PHASE OF RENOVATIONS
The historic Kreische House in La Grange will soon be entering the next phase of preservation efforts.
The house, located within Monument and the Kreische Brewery State Historic Site, is undergoing a condition assessment which is nearing completion.
According to a release from Texas Parks and Wildlife, the assessment included testing and analysis to measure the integrity of the structure, and to identify public concerns before major restoration work begins.
State Senator Lois Kolkhorst said she has worked closely with Texas Parks and Wildlife to secure funding for the project. She said the house is part of a very significant historic site, and it is the state’s goal to protect it for future generations. She added that her office is confident that repairs will be made soon, and she is encouraged by the recent planning and progress.
The assessment is expected to be finished by early summer, with construction of a new roof starting shortly afterwards. The roof replacement project, as well as a small smokehouse on the property, is projected to be complete by the end of the year.
Elements of the roof replacement project include installing a new fire-retardant roof, site drainage diversion, and replacing exterior wood rot throughout the structure.
Texas State Parks Director Rodney Franklin said the assessment is critical to help staff recognize the steps needed to preserve the site. He said this roof project will help protect the house for future generations to enjoy.
