GRIMES CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE RE-OPENING FATAL HIT AND RUN INVESTIGATION FROM 2017

Grimes County officials are re-opening a fatal hit and run investigation that was put on hold last year.

Investigation began in 2017, when on December 18th, a vehicle struck and killed 35-year-old Michael Bell of Navasota from behind.  Bell was walking early in the morning along the shoulder of Highway 105 towards Navasota, in dense fog.

Bell’s body was reported to have been left at the scene for several hours, before authorities were informed of the incident.  Investigators say the driver might not have seen Bell walking, or realized what he or she hit.  The driver responsible was never apprehended.

Grimes County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Daniel Wagnon said while no new evidence has come up, the Sheriff’s Office is seeking information from the public on the cold case.

Lt. Wagnon said officials are still analyzing evidence from the scene in the state DPS crime lab.  Investigators believe the vehicle involved to be a Toyota pickup, ranging from 1997 to 2000.  Earlier reports suggest the vehicle was dark green, but Lt. Wagnon said investigators are not certain of the color.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office at 936-873-2151.
