MINOR INJURIES IN FIERY 18-WHEELER CRASH ON HIGHWAY 21 NEAR CALDWELL

  

Update @ 9:30 a.m. 4/26: The driver of the truck pulling a semi-trailer was identified as 37-year-old Antonio Kent of Killeen.  The driver of the tanker truck was 21-year-old Noah Steptoe of Navasota.  Both were treated on the scene for minor injuries.  The fires were extinguished by the Caldwell Fire Department.

Original Story @ 2:18 p.m.: Parts of Highway 21 near Caldwell are shut down, following a fiery collision involving two 18-wheelers.

According to DPS Sergeant Jimmy Morgan, the accident occurred just before 12:30 p.m. this (Thursday) afternoon at the intersection of Highway 21 and FM 908, west of Caldwell.  An 18-wheeler pulling a flat-bed trailer was coming from FM 908, attempting to cross over and go east onto Highway 21.

When the first 18-wheeler got out in the middle part of the intersection, it was struck on the driver side by an empty tanker truck.  Both vehicles briefly caught fire.

According to Sgt. Morgan, both drivers sustained minor injuries, with neither expected to need medical transport.

Both directions of the highway were shut down for about an hour and a half, with crews working on getting eastbound traffic re-opened at the time of this posting.
