Nearly half a million dollars were raised in support of Boys and Girls Country (BGC) at the 41st Annual Spring Festival last Saturday in Hockley.
The festival, presented by the John Herr Foundation, brought in $469,000 for the organization, going to provide Christian homes for more than 100 Houston children from families in crisis.
Despite the weather forecasts, the event brought hundreds of people out under sunny skies to enjoy live country music from Josh Grider, award-winning barbecue, rides and games.
The event was chaired by BGC board directors Ryan Rodgers and Scott Galloway. BGC Executive Director Vincent Duran said the organization is “amazed at the generosity of our sponsors, donors and volunteers” who work to make the Spring Festival a success.
The festival began four decades ago as a picnic hosted by the BGC Women’s Auxiliary, and has grown into an event which regularly brings thousands of people out to the Hockley campus.

This event is followed by the Heritage Awards Dinner on October 30th, which serves as a major fundraising event for the organization. This year’s event features entertainment from comedian Jeff Foxworthy.
