BLUEBONNET ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE CELEBRATING 80 YEARS WITH BIRTHDAY EVENTS AT SERVICE CENTERS

Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is preparing to celebrate its 80th anniversary.

To mark the occasion, the cooperative is hosting a series of birthday events at its five member services centers in Brenham, Giddings, Lockhart, Manor, and Bastrop.

Festivities will include refreshments, a display of vintage electric appliances, and the chance to visit and take photos with a fully outfitted Bluebonnet lineman.

Bluebonnet General Manager Matt Bentke said he is proud of the cooperative’s history and its growth from humble beginnings.

Bluebonnet’s official anniversary is August 3rd, marking the first meeting of the cooperative’s inaugural board of directors. The cooperative received its state charter on August 2nd.

Bentke said this year is particularly special, as the cooperative recently hit another milestone.

Bentke said, over his nearly 20 years with the cooperative, it has become much more reliant on technology in its day-to-day operations. But while the co-op’s methods may change, he said its goal will stay the same.

Each of the birthday events will be from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at each of the member service centers, with the first on Tuesday, July 30th in Brenham, at 2401 Highway 290 West.  The second will be held in Giddings on Thursday, August 1st, at 3190 East Austin Highway.

There will be three more celebrations the following Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Lockhart, Manor, and Bastrop, respectively.
