Local firefighters stayed busy Wednesday afternoon, as they fought the third grass fire in Washington County in two days.

Prairie Hill and Meyersville volunteer firefighters were called out around 1 p.m. to several hay bales on fire on three acres of property on FM 2621, between Sandy Hill and FM 390.

According to Prairie Hill Volunteer Deputy Chief Doug Zwiener, firefighters were able to contain the blaze.  30 round bales burned, but they were able to save about 20 other bales.

Units were at the scene for several hours.  Zwiener confirmed the fire was started by a lawnmower hitting a rock.
