WASHINGTON CO. CONFIRMS FIRST COVID-19 DEATH

Washington County officials have announced the first death of a COVID-19 positive patient.

Officials announced this (Friday) morning that a male, 80 to 89 years old with multiple underlying medical conditions, passed away early this morning.  The man was a resident of Washington County.

County Judge John Durrenberger said it is with a heavy heart that the county has to announce it has lost one of its own to COVID-19.  He said the numbers reported every day are not statistics, but are “fellow community members who are fighting a tough battle”.

As of this morning, no new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the county.  Two patients remain hospitalized.

The community is asked to continue following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.  Anyone with questions or concerns can call Faith Mission’s toll-free COVID-19 helpline at 1-800-845-8035.

The full list of confirmed cases in the county is available at www.washingtoncountyems.net/covid-19-confirmed-cases.

  1. First of all, my condolences to the families of all of the people that are having to deal with the effects of this virus, both as direct impact of the disease as well as the economic impact.

But did the “no new cases” part of this article come from a county official? Or is it based on the EMS website that hasn’t been updated in 2 days? It is mind boggling to me that we are the only county where our elected county and city officials are not providing updates directly to their constituents.

    1. John…I had the same question about the EMS website. They assured us that there have been no new cases since Wednesday. We did suggest that they update the date on their website even though there were no new cases.

  2. Ok so now Maybe Washington county will wake up and issue the stay at home order. It doesn’t matter the age of the person, or what kind of conditions he had, that passed away, what matters is how he got it and any of us can carry it and give it to them elderly people or anybody else for that matter, if we don’t do what we’re supposed to do and stay at home. Prayers go to the family. Judge- issue the order already, because there are a lot of people That are not doing what they are asked to do. The virus does not pick and choose who it affects, or what county, or state. We are all in this fight. Do you want the government doctors asked and stay at home that’s the only way we’re going to beat this is social distancing I’m going to get what you need only and then going back home

    1. Other counties that have a stay at home in place have problems also of ppl not listening.,it helps some but the curve is NOT flattening.all you can do is worry about your actions, you are not responsible for other ppl actions, they will not listen until it hits their house…which it will…just do what you can to keep you and yours safe…sadly this will be the way it will be..I might add I do hope the officials here are not going on a herd immunity senerio, that would be dangerous and shot down fast by the CDC

    2. Order is already in effect. Look at post dated April 2, 2020 titled “WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS EXTEND LOCAL DISASTER DECLARATION THROUGH END OF MONTH” you will find a copy on that post

    3. Lock down or no lock down, people are going to do what they want to do. There are always “bad apples” in the bunch. All we can hope is that people see this and start taking the virus serious.

  3. Prayers being said for family ,and prayers being said for all families around the world whom have lost a loved one.HEARTBREAKING,
EVERYONE PLEASE DO YOUR PART IN FLATTENING THE CURVE.
