Ken and Deena Altman of Altman Plants were named last month as the recipients of the AFE’s Ambassador Award.

The AFE Ambassador Award honors individuals and organizations in the floral industry who “exemplify exceptional leadership, advocacy, and service to the Endowment’s mission.”  The AFE said in a press release that their mission has long been a priority for the Altmans and is “reflected in both their professional success and their consistent and generous support of floriculture research, education, and innovation.”

Altman Plants was founded by the Altmans in 1975 in California.  They purchased the Giddings nursery location in 2014.

Ken and Deena established the Altman Family Scholarship through AFE 11 years ago to support graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in floriculture or horticulture.  The scholarship has provided financial assistance to more than 25 students.  Additionally, Altman Plants regularly hosts interns to offer hands-on experiences in plant production and provide an introduction to careers in floriculture.

AFE Chairman David Garcia said the Altmans “have created a lasting legacy by investing in young professionals and strengthening the industry’s most important resource, its people.”
