BLUEBONNET ELECTRIC WARNING OF REPORTED SCAMS
Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is warning its members to be wary amid reports of scammers.
Bluebonnet says scammers are currently taking advantage of fears about the coronavirus and the economy.
Bluebonnet sends mail reminders and makes courtesy phone calls if payment is overdue, but never calls to demand immediate payment. Bluebonnet says to not pay anyone who claims to be from the cooperative asking for a payment, and to not provide any personal or account information.
Previously, Bluebonnet Public Affairs Manager Will Holford said the cooperative is working with those affected during the COVID-19 outbreak on an individual basis. He said Bluebonnet will not disconnect members whose jobs and incomes have been affected by COVID-19 for nonpayment.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call is asked to get the caller’s information and report it to Member Services at 800-842-7708 and/or local law enforcement.
Bluebonnet’s member service center lobbies are currently closed to the public, but members in need of assistance with their bills can still call Bluebonnet at 800-842-7708 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The drive-through lanes at Bluebonnet’s five member service centers remain open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Members can continue to make payments and report power outages online at www.bluebonnet.coop, or by downloading the co-op’s mobile app.
