JONES SAYS ‘PRESCOTT NOT ON OUR LIST OF PRIORITIES’

Dak Prescott

Two days into the team's virtual offseason program, Cowboys' coach Mike McCarthy would not discuss whether quarterback Dak Prescott participated in the voluntary workouts as he and team continue to work on a long-term contract.

McCarthy said during a conference call Tuesday, he didnt' understand why the questions about Prescott were being asked.  But, "he's been a part of it as far as the communication with the coaches."

The Cowboys placed the exclusive franchise tag on Prescott in March, which will cost $31.4 million. The sides have had negotiations since then on a long-term deal but have not bridged the gap to bring them closer to an agreement.

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he did not know when or if Prescott would sign the tender, and that it’s “not on our list of priorities.”

Sources have said Prescott will not take part in the offseason program, virtual or otherwise, without a long-term deal.

Since he is not under contract, Prescottwould not be required to attend the mandatory minicamp in June, should the offseason return to form from the interruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
