WASHINGTON CO. UP TO 38 COVID-19 DEATHS; COUNTY REPORTING 111 ACTIVE CASES

  

Washington County has reported several deaths attributed to COVID-19 since the beginning of the week.

The county, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), has reported three new deaths along with 11 positive cases and six recoveries since Monday.  As of Wednesday, the county had 452 positive cases, 111 active cases, 302 recoveries, and 38 deaths.

Monday’s numbers showed 441 positive cases, 110 active cases, 296 recoveries, and 35 deaths.

The recent increase in cases can be attributed in part to Kruse Village and the Brenham State Supported Living Center, who have reported rising numbers in recent weeks.

As of Tuesday, 25 residents and 18 staff members at Kruse Village had tested positive for COVID-19, while four additional residents have died.  Meanwhile, one resident and seven staff members have recovered from the virus.

At the Brenham State Supported Living Center, as of Tuesday, there were 12 active cases involving residents and 22 active cases in staff members.  According to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), 17 residents have recovered, while 31 staff members have recovered and returned to work.

Monday, DSHS announced changes to its reporting method of COVID-19 fatalities, saying deaths are now counted by using the cause of death listed on death certificates, rather than waiting for reports from local and regional health departments.  Death certificates are required by law to be filed within ten days.

The HHSC has begun providing COVID-19 data on cases, recoveries, and deaths at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, state supported living centers, and state hospitals.  That data can be found at https://hhs.texas.gov.
