AUSTIN CO. INVESTIGATING UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO GENERAL FUND ACCOUNT

Austin County officials are looking into how a company employed by the county was able to draft funds from their General Fund.

During a recent meeting of the Commissioners Court, County Auditor Billy Dogherty and County Treasurer Bryan Haevischer told commissioners they are looking for answers.

According the Bellville Times, Iron Mountain, a nation-wide shredding company, was somehow able to draft two payments for shredding services from the county’s general fund.

Doherty says he is trying to find out who gave the company the county’s Comdata card account number.

Doherty says the two payments, totaling $1,868.28, were drafted from the account, while he was able to stop a draft of a third payment.

Doherty says Iron Mountain is investigating how they obtained the account number.

Haevischer says he put a stop payment on Iron Mountain and they cannot get back into the account.
