FIRE DESTROYS NEW BARBECUE RESTAURANT IN NAVASOTA

  

A fire early this (Thursday) morning destroyed a recently opened barbecue restaurant in Navasota.

Rattler’s Den Cafe, which opened in February at the corner of Montgomery and South LaSalle Streets, was totaled by the fire that started at approximately 6:45 a.m.  The Navasota Fire Department found heavy fire coming from inside the building upon arrival, but extinguished the blaze in about 10 minutes.

According to Navasota Fire Chief Jason Katkoski, no one was inside the building at the time of the fire, which caused significant damage to the interior.  Katkoski said the department is still investigating what caused the fire, but nothing seems suspicious at this time.

The restaurant owners say they still plan to operate out of the back of the building, selling barbecue sandwiches and chips.
