FOURTH COVID-19 CASE IN BRENHAM ISD CONFIRMED IN STAFF MEMBER AT BRENHAM JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
TWO STUDENTS, TWO EMPLOYEES HAVE TESTED POSITIVE SINCE SEPTEMBER 22ND
Brenham ISD has reported its fourth case of COVID-19 and the second in a staff member.
Brenham ISD COVID-19 Response Leader Jamie Woodall said the district was informed late Wednesday of the newest case, which was confirmed in an employee at Brenham Junior High School.
The employee, who was last on campus Wednesday, is now in quarantine along with one other employee who was found to have close contact through case investigation. Woodall is unaware of any symptoms in the employee who had close contact.
Woodall said the employee who tested positive is not connected to the positive case confirmed in a staff member on Tuesday or to the two other staff members who had close contact with that positive case.
Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 cannot come back to school until 10 days after the onset of symptoms and 24 hours after fever and symptoms have resolved. Anyone who is found to have had close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual will be notified by phone, and will be required to remain off campus for 14 days.
Woodall said the district’s COVID-19 Response Team meets weekly to look at the number of cases across the district, discuss what nurses are seeing in schools, and consider any concerns administrators may have. Woodall said after meeting this (Thursday) morning with the response team, as well as Tuesday with Washington County Health Authority Dr. William Loesch and Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin, the district still feels “very strong” in its current procedures and will not make any adjustments at this time.
Woodall maintained that students and staff are doing an “excellent job” in following COVID-19 protocols as specified in the district’s coronavirus response and prevention plan.
The district’s three other positive cases were confirmed in a Brenham High School student on September 22nd, a Brenham Middle School student on Monday, and a district employee on Tuesday.
