CITY OF BRENHAM RECEIVES STATE RECOGNITION FOR COMPREHENSIVE PLAN

The City of Brenham has been recognized across the state for its comprehensive planning efforts.

Thursday, the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) announced its State Planning Awards, recognizing the state’s best planning projects, advocates, and communities for 2020.

Brenham was named one of two recipients of a Planning Excellence Award for its comprehensive plan, titled “Historic Past, Bold Future: Plan 2040.”  The city was also named the winner of the Comprehensive Plan Award from the Central Texas Section of the APA.

Development Services Director Stephanie Doland said the city’s comprehensive planning process heavily involved feedback from community members, so they deserve just as much recognition as the city.

The APA’s Awards Selection Committee evaluated nominees based on originality and innovation, engagement, implementation and effectiveness, quality, and promotion of planning.

APA President Chance Sparks said these awards “provide a great reminder to all Texans of the value sound planning practices bring in helping communities create unique places so many people love.”
