BRENHAM POLICE OFFICER STRUCK; SUSPECT INJURED IN TRAFFIC STOP

A Brenham Police officer sustained minor injuries and a suspect was taken to a local hospital after an early-morning confrontation.

Just after midnight, police made a traffic stop in the 100 block of East Val Verde St.

Officer Armando Guerra attempted to detain the driver, who he says was uncooperative and exhibiting signs of intoxication.

Guerra says the suspect, whose name is not being released by police, struck him in the face before attempting to flee.  The two then reportedly fell to the ground with the suspect striking his head on the concrete.

EMS transported the man to Scott & White Hospital for evaluation, while Officer Guerra was treated for minor injuries.

Charges are currently pending.
