BLUE BELL AQUATIC CENTER HOSTING 14TH ANNUAL KIDFISH SATURDAY

A reel-y good time awaits anglers of all ages this weekend at the Blue Bell Aquatic Center’s 14th Annual KIDFISH.

Hundreds of pounds of catfish will fill the aquatic center’s outdoor leisure pool Saturday, and fishers will be able to try their hand at reeling them in.

Aquatic Supervisor Tammy Jaster says the free event provides a fun fishing experience for children who may not get to go fishing very often.

The event opens at 8:30 a.m., with catch and release from 9 to 11 a.m. and catch and keep from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The top catchers will be recognized at a ceremony at 1:15 p.m., where Jaster says they will be awarded trophies, prizes, and even a chance to compete at a state competition.

The event is open to anyone, while the competition is open for children 17 and under.  Other activities will include opportunities for boy scouts and girl scouts to earn badges, a fish-themed photo area, fall bowling, a ball toss, slingshot practice, and an inflatable obstacle course in the indoor competition pool.

Fishing poles will be provided, and they will be sanitized in between uses.  However, people can also bring their own equipment if they choose to.  The number of fishers at the pool will be limited at any given time to allow for social distancing.

KTEX-106’s Trail Boss Troy will be at the aquatic center Saturday morning.
