TxDOT VIRTUAL MEETING THURSDAY ON 290 CLOVERLEAF PROJECT

TxDOT will seek public input on proposed improvements to the Highway 290 cloverleaf interchange with Highway 36 at a virtual meeting beginning Thursday afternoon.

A virtual public meeting is slated to begin today at 3 p.m., and will discuss the proposed construction of a new interchange.  The meeting will remain open online through Friday, December 4th.

The meeting will consist of a pre-recorded presentation by the project team with both audio and visual components, and will allow opportunities for public comment.

The primary focus of the proposed project is to build a new interchange that will provide a continuous route along Highway 290, maintain two lanes in each direction, and keep access to local roads.  Three concepts were originally presented to Brenham and Washington County officials in March 2019, but continued analysis led to the creation of two additional concepts and the modification of one of the original concepts for a total of five that will be shown during the meeting.

All concepts include expanding Highway 290/Highway 36 connection from one to two lanes, completing conversion to one-way frontage roads, updating entrance and exit ramps to current standards, and accommodating bicyclists and pedestrians within urban settings.

According to TxDOT, the proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right of way and potential displacements.  Information about relocation assistance for displaced persons and businesses is available by calling 979-213-7591.

To log onto the virtual meeting, visit www.txdot.gov and keyword search “US 290/SH 36.”  Those without internet access can call 979-778-2165 to ask questions during the project development process.

Written comments can be submitted by mail to the TxDOT Bryan District Office, Attn: Steve Higgins P.E., 2591 North Earl Rudder Freeway, Bryan, TX 77803.  Written comments can also be emailed to Steve.Higgins@txdot.gov.  All comments must be received on or before Friday, December 4th.

  1. Do not be surprised when we are forced to accept the “Diamond” intersection like the one on FM 60 when you enter College Station. Dumbest thing I have ever seen in my life. Whomever designed that should have their engineering license revoked.

    1. Although You may not like the Diverging Diamond pattern, And I do think its a bit odd feeling to be driving on the wrong side of the road, This design usually is more cost effective and does not require the state to Take as much land from home and business owners. It also is the quickest as far as start to finish of new roadway. The Diamond pattern is not a new Idea in other countries . Just new to us here in the Us , I travel quite a bit to other states and have begun seeing more of this Option in a few states. It is the Easiest to build, Most cost effective, and takes less land from home owners . So I see the Diamond pattern as a Great option. . ,
