BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGE APPOINTMENTS

The Brenham City Council will take up talks on the potential appointment of municipal court judges at its meeting Thursday.

After meeting in executive session, the council will consider appointing a presiding judge and associate judge, both for a two-year term ending on December 31, 2022.  Councilmembers will also discuss and possibly act upon the judges’ compensation.

Back in January, the council appointed local attorney John D. Winkelmann as the presiding judge for a term ending December 31st.  His appointment followed the removal of previous presiding judge Bill Kendall in October 2019.  The city in December 2019 appointed Patricia Gruner, the presiding municipal judge in Navasota, as an associate municipal judge.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, following a workshop with Washington County Commissioners, the council will consider passing a resolution or letter in support of TxDOT improvements to the Highway 290 cloverleaf interchange with Highway 36.  The council will indicate its support for one of five concepts recently showcased by TxDOT for the redesign of the cloverleaf.

The council will also consider:

  • Rezoning 20 properties on approximately 12.1 acres of land located on or next to Clinton Street, Seelhorst Street, South Chappell Hill Street, Dark Street, and Mills Street.
  • A variance to the city’s flood damage prevention ordinance allowing the Ralston Creek Lift Station to be elevated above the 500-year floodplain.
  • An agreement for construction of public improvement between the city and Ranier and Son Development Company, LLC (Stylecraft) regarding construction costs related to oversizing a water main for the Vintage Farms subdivision.
  • A resolution related to procurement procedures for expenditures in connection with purchases by the city’s gas and electric utility departments.

The council will meet Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
