REP. LEMAN PREVIEWS UPCOMING LEGISLATIVE SESSION, DISCUSSES PRIORITIES

State Representative Ben Leman (R-Anderson) speaks at a Legislative Wrap-Up Forum in August 2019 at Blinn College in Brenham.

State Representative Ben Leman hopes to address several key issues to his district in the upcoming legislative session, but also knows there will be several challenges facing lawmakers.

The 87th Legislature’s regular session begins in less than a week on Tuesday, January 12th, and will see large changes in how business is conducted.

Leman says budgetary constraints will be one of the biggest difficulties when attempting to address the issues on the table this session.

Leman expects legislators will focus most on redistricting, elections integrity, regulations pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, and potential police reform.  He also believes internet for rural areas will be a hot topic.

Among the issues Leman plans to prioritize this session are human trafficking and overtaxing, along with specific taxing circumstances.  He has already filed several Second Amendment rights bills, and also intends to continue talks on eminent domain reform.

Leman, who was unopposed in his 2020 bid for reelection, has served as the District 13 representative for the Texas House since 2018.  His district includes Austin, Burleson, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes, Lavaca, and Washington counties.
