ROAD CLOSURE ON OLD NORTH MARKET STREET BEGINNING MONDAY
The City of Brenham Street Department will close Old North Market Street starting Monday for road reconstruction.
The roadway will be closed from North Market Street to Riggs Street for approximately a week to a week and a half. Reconstruction will be done in phases throughout this time.
During construction and during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., this section of roadway will be limited to vehicular traffic in the work zones. City staff will work with residents to get access to homes throughout this process.
Reconstruction will involve tilling up the current roadway, grading the sub-base and adding bulk cement to stabilize the sub-base. A two-inch asphalt layer will be added to the new road bed after cement is applied, which city officials say should improve the street surface for several years.
Drivers are asked to be mindful of dusty conditions during construction, especially as cement is applied. They are also asked to not drive the roadway while bulk cement is applied from 8 a.m. to noon. Vehicular travel will also be limited on the day asphalt is laid. Drivers who are unsure of road conditions are asked to check with road workers before proceeding.
Residents are asked to park their cars in driveways or off the roadway between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and to turn off their sprinkler systems if they have any.
