RIBBON CUTTING HELD AT CITY OF BRENHAM SPLASH PAD
Representatives from the City of Brenham and Washington County Chamber of Commerce met Thursday to hold a ribbon cutting at the Henderson Park splash pad.
While the splash pad first opened to the public last June, no ribbon cutting was held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The splash pad reopened for the spring and summer seasons on April 1st, and is open through the end of September.
City Manager James Fisher said a lot of work went into this project, and the result is “something that benefits our community for many years.”
Public Works Director Dane Rau said this was a special project, one he will remember for his entire career. He called it “a joy” to see children from the community enjoying the splash pad.
Over the past few months, funding from the Brenham Community Development Corporation (BCDC) was used to build and install several splash pad improvements, including sidewalks for connectivity, a single-family restroom, additional seating, and a bike rack. A shade structure was also built using a grant from the H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust.
The splash pad has reduced hours of 2 to 7 p.m. through the month of April, due to the Brazos River Authority’s (BRA) Stage 1 drought watch.
