17 KILOS OF COCAINE SEIZED DURING FAYETTE CO. TRAFFIC STOP

A traffic stop on I-10 in Fayette County led to authorities discovering 17 kilos of cocaine Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics K-9 Unit stopped a Ford F-350 on I-10 at the Engle exit for a traffic violation.

Sergeant Randy Thumann received consent to search the vehicle and deployed K-9 Kolt, who detected the odor of illegal narcotics.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a search of the vehicle revealed an after-market compartment built into the dash.  An electric motor was utilized to gain access through the airbag in the passenger dash.

Sgt. Thumann, along with Deputy Herman Olvera, removed the cocaine, valued at an estimated $1.7 million, from the compartment.

The driver, 48-year-old Alfredo Cabrera of Eagle Pass, was arrested for Felony Drug Possession and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
