AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATES FALL IN JULY

  

Unemployment numbers in Washington County and surrounding counties fell during the month of July.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), Washington County reported a 5.9 percent jobless rate in July, down from 6.6 percent in June.

Washington County’s unemployment numbers dropped from 1,000 people in June to 885 in July.

The number of employed residents rose slightly from 14,221 in June to 14,223 last month.  Meanwhile, the civilian labor force dropped from 15,221 in June to 15,108 in July.

During July 2020, the county had an unemployment rate of 6.8 percent and 1,051 people out of work.

Statewide, the unemployment rate last month was 6.2 percent, down from June’s rate of 6.5 percent.

Jobless rates also fell in area counties in July:

  • Austin County – 5.8 percent, down from 6.5 percent in June.
  • Brazos County – 4.7 percent, down from 5.3 percent.
  • Burleson County – 5.4 percent, down from 6.2 percent.
  • Fayette County – 4.7 percent, down from 5.1 percent in June.
  • Grimes County – 7.5 percent, down from 8 percent.
  • Lee County – 4.9 percent, down from 5.3 percent.
  • Waller County – 7.1 percent, down from 7.9 percent.
