TEXAS A&M MEN’S BASKETBALL AND COACH BUZZ WILLIAMS PENALIZED BY NCAA FOR VIOLATIONS

On Friday the NCAA handed down penalties to the Texas A&M basketball program for multiple self reported violations. The NCAA reports that Head Coach Buzz Williams had impermissible contact with a prospect in July 2019, an assistant coach observed and provided multiple tryouts with a prospect during an unofficial visits and was found to have conducted 24 supervised, off campus workouts with team members and a recruiting prospect that were prohibited during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the infractions Buzz Williams has been suspended two games for the upcoming season, the team has been placed on two years probation, and will also lose five official visits this year. The school worked with the NCAA through its "negotiated resolution process," which means it agrees with the NCAA's report and cannot appeal the penalties.
