DURRENBERGER SEEKING RE-ELECTION AS WASHINGTON CO. JUDGE

Washington County Judge John Durrenberger has announced his intent to run for re-election in 2022.

Durrenberger was first elected to the position after defeating former county judge John Brieden in the March 2018 Republican primary and running unopposed in the November 2018 general election.

Durrenberger said one of the things he is most proud of during his time as county judge is securing increases in salaries for county and public safety employees.

In his announcement, Durrenberger also pointed to accomplishments such as the county establishing a long-range plan for road and bridge projects, working with partners to create economic development projects benefitting all of the county, and setting a model for COVID-19 vaccinations with the subHUB at the Washington County Expo.  He also noted the upgrades to the Expo Center, the recent completion of the county’s Engineering and Development Services facility and the start of a nationally recognized EMS helicopter program as some of the most rewarding parts of his time in office thus far.

Durrenberger said, “One of my priorities when I took office was to better utilize the expertise of our county employees, partnerships and neighbors – strategically.  Over the past couple of years we have been able to do exactly that.”

Durrenberger said he looks forward to working with leadership in Chappell Hill and at Lake Somerville to develop a permanent location for an EMS station and helipad to service those areas of the community.  He also plans to move forward with discussion on a new judicial center, as well as renovations of the courthouse.

State Representative Ben Leman, who is not running for re-election, said it has been an honor to work with Durrenberger and that “Washington County is in good hands while he is in that office.”  Brannon Industrial Group founder Mike Brannon said he has “helped steer Washington County in the right direction for our residents and our economy.”

Durrenberger is retired from his longtime role at Mike Hopkins Distributing Company as Vice President and General Sales Manager.
