CHAPPELL HILL WATER SUPPLY CORPORATION ISSUES BOIL WATER NOTICE

Update @ 11:50 a.m. Wednesday: Matthew Monfreda, operations manager with the Chappell Hill Water Supply Corporation, said a test sample was submitted today (Wednesday), and results will not come in until tomorrow (Thursday).

Original Story @ 5:13 p.m. Tuesday: Customers who receive their water from the Chappell Hill Water Supply Corporation are currently under a boil water notice.

The notice was sent out Tuesday evening and is due to water system pressures possibly falling below 20 psi during water line repairs.  The repairs on Providence Street are complete, and no further interruptions in water service are expected.

All customers are advised to boil their water prior to consumption or use.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.  The water should be brought to a vigorous roiling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

Children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.

In lieu of boiling, individuals can purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

When it is no longer necessary to boil water, the public water system will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking or human consumption purposes.

A bacteriological sample will be delivered to a lab today (Wednesday), and the boil water notice will be rescinded if the sample results return free of coliform.
