BELLVILLE CITY COUNCIL EXPLORING OPTIONS FOR GRAWUNDER AIRPORT LAND

The Bellville City Council will have some decisions to make regarding the old Grawunder Airport land.

Real estate investor Richard Marek made a presentation to the council at a recent meeting about wanting to develop the land for a subdivision.

The plan is to build a series of custom homes, valued in the $500,000 range, on one acre lots. They would have two entrances to the subdivision, one gated and one open to the public. There would also be a retention pond, a recreational area, and a trail for walking or jogging.

The land in question was privately owned, but the city of Bellville has been leasing it for the last several years. After they had just signed their most recent lease agreement, the land was sold.

Marek wants to set up the project as a Public Improvement District. Right now, only two and half acres of the property is located inside the Bellville city limits. Marek is seeking to get the entire 84 acres of land annexed.

The proposal would have the city provide utilities, and have no other obligations. The remaining expenses would be picked up by the property owners.

Meanwhile, the Airport Advisory Board told the council that with the new lease agreement in place that they could choose to tear down the old airport building, and construct a new one in its place. The Bellville City Council has not yet publicly discussed whether they would be interested in building a new airport.
