PRECINCT 3 J.P. CANDIDATES SPEAK AT REPUBLICAN CLUB MEETING

The two candidates for Washington County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace spoke Tuesday during the Republican Club of Washington County’s monthly meeting.
Duane “Dane” Houston and Daniel McCarthy met at the Cannery Kitchen in Brenham to share their backgrounds, discuss why they are running for office and outline the issues most important to them.
Houston said he feels his 13 years with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office have given him the experience and understanding needed to responsibly serve the public.
McCarthy, a nine-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, believes this election is about the future and said if elected, he will work to ensure that Washington County is a safe place to live and raise a family.
Following their introductory speeches, the two answered questions from the audience.
The winner between Houston and McCarthy in the March 1st Republican primary will have no Democratic opponent in November.
Precinct 2 Commissioner candidate Mark Schonefeld spoke briefly at the meeting. Current Precinct 2 Commissioner Candice Bullock was sick and unable to attend. The commissioner position and the State Representative District 12 seat are the only other contested races on the Republican primary ballot for Washington County voters.
The last day to register to vote for the primary election is January 31st. Early voting begins February 14th.
