BRENHAM PET ADOPTION CENTER RECEIVES SUPPORT THROUGH ‘BETTY WHITE CHALLENGE’

The Brenham Pet Adoption Center has received hundreds of dollars in donations as part of a nationwide initiative to give back to animal shelters in honor of the late Betty White.

Betty White, who died December 31, 2021 at the age of 99, was known throughout her life as a strong supporter of animals and their well-being.

Animal Services Manager Allison Harper said the shelter has collected approximately $600 in donations thus far through the Betty White Challenge.

Harper said the funds will be used to purchase items to support animals at the shelter and provide medical attention for those who need it.

The Betty White Challenge started after the iconic actress’ death on December 31, 2021, shortly before what would have been her 100th birthday on January 17th.  White is remembered as a strong advocate for the welfare of animals, so her fans came together in support of animal shelters and humane groups around the country.

Meta, Facebook and Instagram’s parent company, said that as of Friday, almost 400,000 people had contributed $12.7 million in fundraising through the social media platforms for shelters and animal rescues.

Harper said the shelter is still collecting donations in White’s name.  Anyone interested in donating can do so on the city’s website, www.cityofbrenham.org.
