A suspect accused of stabbing a Houston Police Department K-9 officer and wanted for questioning in the death of his father has been taken into custody in Waller County.

26 year old Ryan Mitchell Smith was arrested without incident by a Texas DPS Trooper yesterday (Tuesday) around 2pm while walking along the road on Highway 159.

According to the Houston Police Department, Smith allegedly carjacked two men and stole a phone charger from a Houston HEB on Saturday morning.

During a foot chase, Smith is accused of stabbing a K-9 officer with a butcher knife.

Smith was arrested and charged with evading arrest, robbery with bodily injury, and interference with a police animal.

Family members bonded him out on Sunday.

Later, Houston Police were asked to check on Smith’s father when other family members had problems contacting him by phone.

Upon investigation, they found a victim, believed to be Smith’s father, had died of “unnatural causes.”

Smith was spotted in a pickup truck and fled the scene. He later crashed the truck in the Memorial Park area, and left the scene on foot.

A tip later led authorities to his capture. Smith was charged with evading arrest.

More charges could be filed. Police are awaiting the outcome of the autopsy results.
