DISCUSSION WITH LOCAL DIGNITARIES, OFFICIALS AT BLACK HISTORY FORUM MONDAY
The last of four Black history programs at the Cannery Kitchen in Brenham is set for tonight (Monday).
Throughout the month of February, the Cannery Kitchen has hosted the James Emerson Dennis, Jr. Memorial Black History Forum with the theme of “Success through Succession: Planning through Christ-Centered, Multi-Generation, Culturally Diverse Servant-Leadership.”
Tonight’s forum, beginning at 5:30 p.m., will feature a conversation with local dignitaries and officials about servant-leadership.
Reverend Randy Wells said the discussion will revolve around the current state of the community and its outlook moving forward.
Planned guests include State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, County Judge John Durrenberger, Brenham Mayor Milton Tate, Blinn College Dean for Institutional Diversity and Equity Dr. Bennie Graves, Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin, Brenham Police Chief Ron Parker and Blinn College Police Chief John Chancellor. After the program, the speakers will be open for questions.
This month’s forum has highlighted the establishment of the James Emerson Dennis, Jr. Black History Club at Brenham High School, consisting of 27 students from grades 10-12. A $5,000 scholarship has been established in Dennis’ name through Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church, and will be presented to a senior club member. In addition, a $15,000 endowed scholarship at Blinn College is being established in the name of Eddie Harrison.
Tonight’s event is free to the public, and will be catered by Mundy’s Legs N’ Tails and Wild Flour Bakeshop.
