OVER 200 POUNDS OF METH FOUND IN GAS TANK

Over 200 pounds of meth were found in a vehicle’s gas tank on I-10 Friday.  Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Friday the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, SGT Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped a Silver Ford F-150 on I-10 at approximately 9:30 AM for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver many indicators of narcotics trafficking were observed and consent to search the vehicle was obtained. SGT Thumann deployed his canine “Kolt” to conduct an exterior sweep of the vehicle. SGT Thumann observed Kolt alert to the presence of illegal narcotics and discovered the vehicles gas tank had been altered to conceal narcotics. After accessing the compartment in the gas tank Thumann located approximately 211.4 pounds of meth with an estimated street value of 3.8 million dollars.  The driver Marcial Ramirez, 49 of Del Rio, was arrested for Felony Possession and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
