CUBS SEASON COMES TO END WITH A 2-0 LOSS TO FRIENDSWOOD

Jacob Mabie

The season came to an end for the Brenham Cubs as they fell to the Friendswood Mustangs 2-0 last (Thursday) night.

The Cubs only managed two hits in the game, a single by Jacob Mabie in the first inning and a single by Devin Murithi in the seventh inning.

Blane Bolcerek pitched well enough to get a win, but just couldn't get the run support.  Against one of the top offensive teams in the state, Bolcerek went six innings, allowing only two runs, four hits, one walk, and striking out four.

Gunner Gee

Easton Tumis, who has already committed to the University of Houston as a junior, pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings, allowing one hit, two walks, and striking out six.  Dave Perry closed it out with 1 1/3 innings allowing one hit, no runs, two walks, and striking out three.

The Mustangs scored their two runs in the bottom of the second inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Dylan Maxcey and Reed South. A third run almost scored, but Lane Sparks gunned down Kyle Lockhart at the plate for the final out of the inning.

Hayden Hupe

The Cubs had a pair of chances late in the game.  Mabie, Sparks, and Mason Lampe all walked in the top of the sixth to load the bases. Perry struck out Ethan Jezierski to end the threat.

Then, in the top of seventh, Murithi singled and Hayden Hupe walked.  However, Perry struck out Rylan Wooten to end the game and the season for Brenham.

Brenham finished the season 25-13-1.

17 seniors had their final games in a Cub uniform: Brant Bender, Devin Murithi, Mason Lampe, Ian Wirtz, Blane Bolcerek, Colin Schaper, Brayden Derkowski, Ethan Jezierski, Cade Warmke, Wyatt Kohring, Peyton Prewitt, Landon Gurka, Cayden Shields, Breyson Koehl, Dylan Baker, Hayden Hupe, and Aiden Klehm.
