BRENHAM MAIN STREET BOARD RECOMMENDS REVISIONS TO PARKLET MANUAL
The Brenham Main Street Board gave recommendations to implement several changes to the city’s proposed downtown parklet manual at its meeting Monday.
The manual lays out the information and rules for any prospective parklet developers in downtown.
The changes suggested by the board include only allowing businesses that sell food or beverages to have parklets, and not imposing restrictions on the type of dinnerware allowed. Another change would implement a 90 day grace period to allow property owners to determine if a new tenant in their building would like to sponsor an existing parklet.
In addition, the board recommended that grant money not be used for parklets. Parklet applicants would also need to submit detailed concept drawings that include measurements and show depth and elevation.
The board’s recommended adjustments to the manual will go before the city council at its meeting next Thursday. If approved, the first 30-day period for parklet applications is planned to open on July 1st.
In other business Monday, the board approved recommendations from the economic vitality committee to accept economic impact and innovation grant applications from Doug Peck and Mike Vance. Peck is requesting $15,000 to assist with the cost of fire suppression at Green Grain Events, while Vance is also asking for $15,000 to purchase materials for the Phase I exhibit at the Brenham Heritage Museum.
The applications will go through committee review. The work must be completed and invoices sent to the board before the property owners are reimbursed.
The board was also informed that ticket sales are going well for Saturday’s Summer Sip and Art Walk in downtown. Tickets are available online at www.downtownbrenham.com or in person at the event.
