KASANDRA DAVIS RECEIVES SUMMER HUNGER HERO AWARD FOR WORK WITH BRENHAM ISD SUMMER MEALS

No Kid Hungry, a national anti-hunger nonprofit organization, recognized Davis for her work in launching a free, non-congregate summer meal program, providing meals to go for students to ensure they received nutritious meals during their time away from school.
Davis credited the child nutrition team and the community for the award, saying the summer meal program would not have been possible without them.
According to Davis, 98,792 meals were served throughout the months of June and July. That total is more than eight times the number of meals served last summer, and it generated an additional $343,143 in federal reimbursement to support the child nutrition program. Davis also said they served five times the number of children initially expected.
As part of the recognition ceremony on Thursday, Davis was presented a resolution from State Representative Trey Wharton and a congratulatory letter from State Senator Lois Kolkhorst.
Superintendent Clay Gillentine said Davis and her team have been very successful and that Brenham ISD is very fortunate to have her, adding that this is just one example of what she and this program are able to accomplish.
