The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has been presented with an award promoting advances in jail and detention facility operations.
Washington County Jail Chief Deputy Eric Hensley on Wednesday received the Western Region Corrections Professionals Award for Detention Facility Innovation.
Hensley accepted an award plaque during the Western Regional Jail Conference this week in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The National Institute for Jail Operations says the Detention Facility Innovation Award is given to detention facilities that demonstrate “exceptional achievement in developing and/or enhancing a particular aspect or feature in the facility or in the operations of the facility in line with the mission of the sheriff’s office during the past year.” The Washington County Jail was made aware it had received the honor in April.
Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak nominated the jail and Hensley for the award after Hensley, assisted by local MHMR staff and Texas A&M University Tele-Mental Care staff, designed policies and procedures to provide on-site counseling services at the jail 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
