BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO CONSIDER NEW ENTRY CONTROL SYSTEM, PAY INCREASES

The Burton School Board will take up action on a new entry control system and wage increases at its meeting Monday.

Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said Burton ISD’s current key system to move in and out of district buildings is “antiquated and cumbersome.”

Dr. Kennedy said the keyless entry system that is being considered on Monday would allow the district to monitor who is coming and going into district facilities more efficiently and increase security measures.  She said the new system will also transition into the new facilities that come from the school bond measure.

Other trustee action on Monday will include possible changes to the supplemental salary schedule and increases to staff, administration and superintendent salaries.  Dr. Kennedy said the salary proposals would increase all staff pay to accommodate the higher cost of living and allow the district to be more competitive with compensation plans in the surrounding area.  She did not provide the specific amount of the increase that would be proposed at the meeting.

The board will also consider:

  • Administering the oath of office of trustees Demetrius Colvin, Sr. and Jeff Harmel, who were unopposed during the May 7th election.  The board will then reorganize to determine who will serve as president, vice president and secretary.
  • Choosing Lightspeed as the provider of the district’s internet content filter.
  • Approval of Region VI, Education Service Center e-Contracts.
  • Approval of an Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) application.
  • An instructional coordinator position.
  • Staff and administrative reports, as well as a facilities bond project update.

The board will meet Monday at 6 p.m. in the Burton High School Auditorium.  The public can listen virtually to the meeting using the information below.
