A Grimes County man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of Sexual Assault of a Child.

On September 22, 2020, the Navasota Police Department received information through Child Protective Services that a 16-year-old female was pregnant. The victim reported that the father was a forty-year-old male.

Navasota Police Investigator Travis Mullins began looking into the sexual abuse case, and was able to identify 42-year-old Mace Travis Bonner as the suspect, and that the victim was 15-years-old at the time that she was sexually assaulted.

District Attorney Investigator John Wren assisted with the case and was able to obtain a confession from Bonner. The offense in question was determined to have occurred at an apartment in Navasota.

On April 8 of this year, Bonner pled guilty before District Court Judge Gary Chaney, and his lawyer asked for a sentencing hearing to assess punishment.

Grimes County Assistant D.A. David Armbruster prosecuted the case.

Sexual Assault of Child is a second-degree felony. Bonner could have received probation or up to 20 years in prison.

The sentencing hearing was held on Wednesday and after listening to testimony and arguments, Judge Chaney sentenced Bonner to 10 years in prison.  He will also have to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
