The Washington Volunteer Fire Department reports the crash happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. on FM 1155, close to its intersection with Washington Bridge Road.

According to DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz, a 2016 GMC Terrain was traveling northbound on FM 1155 behind a “mini motorbike”.  Ruiz said the front of the GMC struck the back tire of the bike, causing the rider on the bike to hit the GMC’s windshield.

Update @ 10:45 a.m. 8/4: Per Ruiz, the bike did not have any reflectors, and the rider was not wearing a reflective vest, so the driver of the GMC did not see the rider as the GMC approached the bike.

The operator of the bike, identified as 41-year-old Derrick Harvey of Washington, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the GMC was not injured.

Ruiz said no charges have been filed at this time, and investigation is ongoing.
