BURTON SCHOOL BOARD ADOPTS BUDGET, TAX RATE

The Burton School Board on Monday officially adopted Burton ISD’s new budget and tax rate for the 2026-27 school year.

No public comments were received prior to the trustees’ unanimous votes to set the $15,017,260 budget and the tax rate of $0.777447 per $100 valuation.

The new budget consists of $11,913,789 for maintenance and operations (M&O), $370,550 for child nutrition and $2,732,921 for debt service.  It is up from the past year’s budget of $14,555,785, increasing allocations for instruction, general administration and debt service payments, but reducing what Burton ISD is projected to pay in recapture to the state.

The new tax rate is made up of $0.6128 for M&O and $0.164647 for interest and sinking (I&S).  It is below the past tax rate of $0.8047.

In other business, trustees approved budget amendments to close out the 2025-26 budget year and amendments to the supplemental pay schedule to update language.  They also held preliminary talks on possible long-term maintenance projects for the baseball and softball fields, which will be discussed further at a meeting planned for next Wednesday, September 9th at 5:30 p.m.
