BRENHAM CUBS OPEN AT OAKRIDGE; BURTON OPEN AT HOLLAND
The Friday Night Lights return this evening as the Brenham Cub Football Team travels on the road to face the Oakridge War Eagles. The kickoff is scheduled for 7pm at Woodforest Bank Stadium. Tommy Lange and I will have the call of the action beginning with the pregame at 6:30pm on KWHI 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
One of the Cubs returning starters, Wide Receiver Ian Stelter, said that he is looking forward to his senior season and that the team is ready to go.
Oak Ridge is one of three 6A teams that the Cubs will be facing in non-district action this season. In preparing for the game, Brenham Coach Danny Youngs says the Cubs will have to be aware of the Eagles' offense.
This will be the first game for Youngs as the Cubs Head Coach. He took over for Elliott Allen, who left to take the Athletic Director's position at Bastrop ISD. Brenham Quarterback Rylan Wooten discussed what it has been like under the new head coach.
Meanwhile, the Burton Panthers are getting ready for the first of what will be an entire season on the road. Due to the construction at Panther Stadium, Burton will not have a game on their home field this year. Their first game is against Holland tonight at 7pm. Coach Jason Hodde gave KWHI the lowdown on their first opponent of the season.
Burton returns eight starters on both sides of the ball. The Panthers are picked by Dave Campbell's Football Magazine as the favorite to win their new district, which now, with realignment, includes long time playoff foe Falls City.
