On September 9th, the Chappell Hill Water Supply Corporation (CHWSC) launched a GoFundMe page to support its “Save the Water Tower” campaign.  The CHWSC says the 1967 water tower, which provides water for residents and businesses in the Chappell Hill area, is in serious need of repair.

According to the CHWSC, there is not a shortage of water, but the storage and delivery of the water are the issues.  Grant applications are in place with the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) and the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), but the grant requests can take several months before a decision is made.

Donations are slated for immediate tower repairs and a generator that is mandated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

The project is split into three phases.  Those include replacing the ladder and safety cable and adding a backup generator in the first phase, adding a standpipe and refurbishing the tower in the second phase, and replacing aged pipes on Main, Poplar, Willow Bend and Cedar Streets in the third phase.  The total cost is estimated at $3,188,000.

Donations will be accepted at local merchants on Main Street in Chappell Hill and at www.chappellhillwater.com.
