CUBS GET 38-22 HOMECOMING WIN OVER RICHMOND RANDLE

The Brenham Cub Football Team opened district play with a 38-22 win over Richmond Randle on Friday night at Cub Stadium. The win also came on Brenham's Homecoming Night.

Brenham got on the board on their first play from scrimmage with a 48 yard touchdown run by Jaylen Ward. Grant Mayfield added the extra point to make it 7-0 Cubs with 10:48 left in the first quarter.

On the next possession, Rylan Wooten found Reid Robinson on an 18 yard touchdown pass.  Mayfield add the extra point to make it 14-0 Cubs with 5:56 left in the first quarter.

The score would remain the same until 17 seconds left in the second quarter.  Wooten used his improvisational skills to escape the Lions' pass rush and find an open Ian Stelter, who raced 31 yards into the end zone for the touchdown.  Mayfield added another extra point to make it 21-0 Cubs.

Brenham recovered a fumble and had one last chance before the half.  Mayfield hit a 40 yard field goal to go into the locker room with a 24-0 lead.

Randle finally got on the board with 10:14 left in the third quarter as Leo Garza found Chris Taylor on a "Tackle Eligible" touchdown pass.  The Lions botched the snap on the extra point try, but the holder managed to complete a pass to the end zone for the two point conversion.  That cut the lead to 24-8.
